Stacey and I are sitting at Jet's Bar drinking a few Belikin Beers in the Belize Philip SW Goldson International Airport. We are waiting for our connecting flight to Placencia, Belize. They are boarding up the airport's windows here in preparation for Hurricane Emily which appears to be headed for Cancun, but the locals don't take chances. In what should have been a nice relaxing beach vacation, we are experiencing one of the worst trips on record. Our Continental flight to Belize City was diverted to Cancun because the one of the flaps was not responding and the pilot did not want to land on such a short runway. Repairs could not be completed in time and we spent the night at the Marriott in Cancun. Stacey was miserable because we were treated like a tour group and forced to travel in groups through customs and kept together. Stacey "will do anything to get out of a tour group."

I won't go into the details, but we left Cancun this morning and now are waiting for the twice delayed flight to our original destination. The folks going to Ambergris Caye are not able to go due to a forced tourist evacuation. Luckily, our hotel is way, way to the south of where Hurricane Emily is expected to make landfall, but our trip is now reduced to only two nights rather than three.

Wish us luck. We hope we will soon hit the beach. Will report again when I return to the SW Goldson International Airport.
